Applying the physical quantity concept and its measurement

Measuring  the physical quantity (mass, length, and time)

C.     Indicator:

1.         Material indicator

a.       Comparing the basic ( fundamental) physical quantities and derived

physical      apply the unit of basic quantity in SI

b.      Determining the dimension of basic quantity

c.       Applying the dimensional analysis in problem solving

d.      Preparing the appropriate measurement instrument (equipment) and use

it to       measure the basic quantity: length, mass, and time correctly and

considering the degree of accuracy, and mathematical error that require

calibration, precision, and sensitivity

e.       Explaining the systematic and random error and provide examples

f.        Calculating the systematic error in measurement

      a.   Demonstrated ability to think logically, creative and innovative in

making decicitions

b.   Competitive attitude and sportsmanship to get the best results

c.   Showed an attitude of confidence, responsible for the behavior, actions,

a.       Student can to differ the basic and derived quantities and its unit in SI

b.      Student can to derive ( deduct) the derived quantities from basic

quantities

c.       Student can to read the measurement result : mass, length, and time by

using the appropriate instruments ( equipment)

E.     Main / Central topic

 

In physics there are two kinds of physical quantities, those are basic quantities and derived quantities. Basic quantities are the physical quantities the units of which are predetermined, while the derived quantities are the physical quantities which the units of which are derived from basic quantities units.

There are seven basic quantities, those are length, mass, time, electric current, temperature, luminous intensity and the amount of substance.

Meanwhile ,the derived quantities are plenty, among the examples are  area, volume, density, velocity, energy and power.

1.      Pre activity

a.       Preparing students psychologically and physically to engage in the

teaching and learning process

–         Praying with the students before the lesson begins

–         Checking attendance

–         Giving chance for students to have reflection on enjoy for 15 minutes.

This moment give a chance for students to verbally express their

knowledge, love/liking or  feeling and how they have applied enjoy.

b.       Evoking students motivation/encouraging students and focusing students

attention to actively participate in the teaching and learning process, by

asking question  about :

–        what do you know about basic quantities?

–        What do you know about derived quantities?

–        How many basic quantities are there?

–        What are the ways to arrange a dimension of quantities?

c.      Explaining the goal of the learning or basic competence which will be used.

2.      Core Activities

The main activity  will be done by using active learning. Teacher delivers the subject matter and discussion including exploration, elaboration and confirmation process will follow.

a.    Exploration

In this activity, teacher :

1.      Involving students to review in JHS about basic quantities and derived quantities then, discussing classically and proceeding to the application of dimension.

2.      Facilitation the happening of student to student interaction, and teacher – student interaction in the discussion.

b.Elaboration

In this activity ,teacher :

1.      Giving chance for students to think and analyze the basic quantities and derived quantities and the application of quantity on dimension.

2.      Facilitating students to do activity which can encourage the pride and confidence by giving assignment.

3.      Facilitating students in the active, cooperative and collaborative learning.

4.      Facilitating students in the presenting the result of their thinking in written form and individually.

5.      Facilitating students to present the result of their work individually.

C . Confirmation

In this activity, teacher :

1.      Giving positive feedback and encouragement.

2.      Giving confirmation to wards the result of exploration and elaboration.

3.      Facilitating students to have a reflection to get learning experienced from

the activity which the have done.

3.      Closing/ Final Activities

In this activity, teacher :

a.       Making a summary/conclusion of the subject matter together with

students.

b.      Assessing and/or reflect on the activity which have been done

c.       Planning follow-up activity by giving individual assignment

d.      Praying and thanking to God that the teaching and learning process has

been well done.
